Pregnancy 101 | Second Trimester
Pregnancy 101 | Second Trimester of Pregnancy:
http://www.lumalove.com/ Our topic, for now, is the second trimester of pregnancy.
Pregnancy has three different trimesters or sections:
The first trimester- The time from when you find out that you are pregnant until 12 weeks.
The second trimester- from 13 weeks to the 27th week of pregnancy, this is a huge time of tremendous physical growth from the mother because you go from not having any tummy at all to a huge tummy.
The third trimester- from 28 weeks up until40 weeks
You see the massive growth in the baby, tremendous growth. By the time you are 20 weeks pregnant, you are going to find that the top of your womb is right around to where your belly button is. By the time you have finished the second trimester of pregnancy, it will be almost up underneath your ribs, that is in 27 weeks. What things should you be looking for during the second trimester of pregnancy?
What should blood tests expect to have in the second trimester of pregnancy?
If you have not had your blood test done early in pregnancy, you are going to have one done in this period, and that is to check your hemoglobin to make sure you are not anemic, check on your blood type. You are going to have a sugar test done to make sure that you are not developing diabetes. You will have a triple screen blood test done that is blood test done to check that there is no probability of you having an abnormality with your baby. We will check it for spina bifida and Down syndrome. Now it is only a screening test. That is done about 16 weeks so make sure you had that blood test done and make sure you know the results. Because on an infrequent occasion you find that these blood tests could get mislaid and if there is a problem with it, you need to know the results.
Make sure that you have your triple screen done about 16-18 weeks and you get the blood results back in about two weeks after that. Other things that you might expect to have in the second trimester of pregnancy is an ultrasound for anatomy. Ultrasound for anatomy is usually done anywhere between like 18 and 20 weeks because we want a decent sized baby. The ultrasound technician when they look for anatomy they are going in looking for the fingers and the toes and the hands and the eyes and the ears, so your baby has to be of decent size for a sonogram for anatomy.
What emotional state should you expect in the second trimester of pregnancy?
Other things that you might expect to experience during the second trimester of your pregnancy is an increase in your physical energy and growth in bonding with your baby, and of course, you might get symptoms like constipation, heartburn, and a whole lot of stuff that could come along at this period. The most important piece of advice that I could give you during your second trimester of pregnancy is to bond and connect and communicate as much as you can with this incredible being that is growing inside of you.
Enjoy your pregnancy, become very informed, because the more informed you are, the better choices you are going to make. The better choices you make in your pregnancy then the probability is that you are going to have a healthier baby and you feel better about your pregnancy experience.
