Pregnancy 101 | Leg Cramps In Pregnancy
Leg Cramps In Pregnancy Some Useful Tips And Facts:
http://www.lumalove.com/ Leg cramps in pregnancy can be awful, and I can say that from firsthand experience. Why do you get leg cramps in pregnancy? A leg cramp results from spasm of the muscles within your legs secondary to an imbalance within your body between your calcium and phosphorous. The growing baby removes calcium from every single bone in your body, and you absorb it into your baby’s body as you need calcium for your babies bones.
All your reserve within your body goes away during your pregnancy, and this is why we prescribe you prenatal vitamins which have a little bit of calcium in it but not enough of that. If you are not drinking a lot of milk every day, cheese, dairy products it has high calcium in it then you really should consider taking an extra supplement of calcium. An ordinary woman outside of pregnancy should be taking two calcium pills every night that is like 500-600 mg, that is over 1000 mg of calcium you should be taking outside pregnancy and guess what? Most of the prenatal vitamins have only got 100 mg of calcium. People are unaware of that.
Therefore, you need to drink plenty of milk, yogurt or cheese to get the calcium into your body. You will know that you are calcium depleted when you get just one leg cramp at all. Please take supplement immediately. It is not unusual that it could be in bed at night and suddenly like me, I just woke up with a ferocious pain in my leg.
The whole leg may be so cramped that you think oh my God if it were in the chest you would say it’s heart attack because they can be that bad. So what is the best thing to do if you do when you get a cramp in your leg? Put your hands on the leg itself and just gently vibrate your hands around the cramping foot and that will help relax your muscles.
I would say you know to prevent the cramps in the first place again by the calcium but also by wearing proper footwear and if it is Winter, good support and stockings or hose on your leg. Every so often, allow yourself to lie down, put your feet up, and get someone to give you a good leg massage every now and then. Your poor feet will more than likely swell at the end of the pregnancy and is very challenging for women, so whatever you can do to nature yourself do so. Again, I urge you to inform yourself. Inform yourself in every aspect of your pregnancy so you can prevent stuff from happening in the first place.
