Pregnancy 101 | Pregnancy Stretch Marks
Pregnancy stretch marks are stretch marks that are associated with pregnancy.
http://www.lumalove.com/ Pregnancy stretch marks are called striae gravidarum. In other words, they are stripes as a result of pregnancy which are very common, especially with your first baby. These stripes are usually very red in color.
So, why do you get them?
Just imagine that the skin is one of the biggest organs that you have got in your body and if you are in good shape and you have a got nice tight tummy, then what will happen as the baby grows. The baby will grow and stretch and expand every piece of your cells within the skin, and as it does that, the skin itself can thin out a little bit more in some areas. In other areas, it looks like a little rip in the skin, but the skin does not really rip. Instead, you end up producing these long red marks, like if you got a red mark down your belly.
Sometimes, there can be just a couple of them. At other times, your whole tummy may become covered with them, and they are awful looking when they get that bad. As I often say; this is part and parcel of pregnancy. A lot of times, you can also get these stretch marks on your breast as your breast grows, it can be on your hips, on your side, and your buttock and you may not even get them at all. You are lucky if you do not get them. After you have the baby, the good thing is that these red stretch marks associated with your pregnancy tend to fade and go away. They become silvery lines, and most of the time you will end up not seeing them at all after one to a couple of months after the baby, but sometimes you can permanently have these little silver lines throughout your body. Again, not everybody gets these stretch marks.
Can you prevent pregnancy stretch marks?
I do believe that if you hydrate your skin from inside and outside then that is the best you can do to try to prevent stretch marks from happening. Hydrate your skin internally by drinking at least 10 glasses of water every day. That does not mean tea, coffee or soda. It means 10 glasses of water every day during your pregnancy. On top of that, cover your whole body with a nice lotion, at least twice a day morning and evening. Rub nice lotion into your body so that it hydrates the skin from the outside, and hopefully, you will reduce the number of stretch marks you get. If not, you might even prevent them altogether. The more informed you are about your pregnancy, the better pregnancy you are going to have.
